Why controlled folly?

‘Why not?’ I would imagine Carlos Castaneda’s Don Juan replying because the kernel of controlled folly is acting for the sake of acting, while knowing very well that the results of that action are unimportant.

The fool is a powerful archetype in many belief systems. It is the innocent wanderer unaware of what life has in store for them. They carry with them all they will need to succeed in their journey, but they are free to choose whatever path they wish because no direction is any more important than another. They can never be lost, they can never be disempowered because they have no destination and no power to begin with. They are the pure, indestructible soul, the beginning and end of every journey.

In Don Juan’s belief system, as conveyed by Castaneda, the warrior must know he is unimportant (a fool) while acting as if he were important. Any act is fine, because all acts are as meaningless (foolish) as any other act, but the acting itself (the control of the folly) is what builds the mentality of the warrior.

This website, and its associated properties, is one path that splits into many different paths (at least it will once I’ve developed it!). But ultimately no path is as important as any other, and while I will gladly write about and debate anything from cryptozoology to aliens to ghosts to dreams, always bear in mind that I am not attached to any viewpoint – I’m just a fool on a neverending journey – as are we all.
